WX Youth Basketball

The Woods Cross Basketball Program will be going into this 2012-2013 season with the thought on “Building on Tradition” as our focus.  Woods Cross has had a very strong basketball tradition for many years making it to the state tournament 8 straight seasons and a Final Four appearance in 2011. I believe the only way to continue that tradition of excellence is to have a strong foundation of youth basketball teams wearing the Woods Cross name across their chest and having pride in that every time they walk onto the floor. The following will be an outline of what I’m hoping as far as the amount of teams we will have (depending on numbers), the amount of coaches needed, the tournaments we would like to play in, and what is expected from the different entities that will make this youth program a success.
Who:
·       6th- 8th Grade boys who live in the Woods Cross boundaries only. We would like to get at least 2 teams per age group with about 8 players per team.
What:
·       These are the tournaments we would like all teams to play in and are all sanctioned by the AAU:
o   Fall Opener – September 9th & October 6th
o   Thanksgiving Tournament – November 23rd & 24th
o   Christmas Tournament – December 26th, 27th, 28th
o   Presidents Day Shootout – February 15th, 16th, 17th
o   AAU State Championships – March 6-20th
o   High School Prep League – December 1st- Feb 23rd
o   AAU Spring Fling – April 22nd- May 17th
Where:
·       Practices will be held at either Woods Cross High School or South Davis Jr. High at least once a week (hopefully twice) depending on gym availability.
·       Most games will be played at either West Jordan High School or Bingham High School.
When:
We will be holding a two-day tryout sometime in early September with the dates and times TBD.
